WHY I STEPPED FORWARD
I never expected to become a candidate for Mayor of Irvine. My background is in engineering and technology—not politics. But after attending City Council meetings, listening to residents, and studying the decisions shaping our city, I felt I had a responsibility to get involved.
I came to the United States from Russia, where meaningful political choice is often limited. That experience taught me not to take democracy for granted. Irvine voters deserve a choice, and every vote on the City Council should matter.
Irvine’s current mayor has served in city government for decades. Experience has value, but healthy democracy also requires competition, new voices, and leaders willing to challenge established ways of doing business.
Max stepped forward so Irvine voters would have another choice.
Recent City budget projections raised serious questions about recurring spending, one-time funding, delayed costs, and Irvine’s long-term financial direction. Balancing a budget for one year is not enough if the underlying financial gap continues to grow.
Residents deserve clear answers about how taxpayer dollars are spent.
Irvine needs housing solutions that last. When affordability requirements expire after a limited period, residents can once again face uncertainty and displacement. Short-term assistance may help temporarily, but it does not replace a durable strategy.
Affordable housing should remain affordable for future generations.
Public information should be clear, accessible, and independent. Residents should be able to understand who is influencing decisions, how public money is used, and who is behind the information they receive.
Democracy works best when residents can see how decisions are made.
Max became deeply involved in Irvine’s open-space discussion, including the future of Oak Creek. He believes major land-use decisions should be handled transparently and that Irvine voters should have a meaningful voice.
One vote still matters—and Max is not afraid to vote no.
Engineering and software work require asking difficult questions, examining evidence, testing assumptions, identifying root causes, and measuring results. Max wants to bring that practical discipline to city government.
